MessageSujet: My personal logbook   Sam 24 Nov - 0:03

Just for curious, some thoughts and technical real data from this Round the World Race, aboard my "Breitling" Open 60:

Nov 24. N12º 20' W023º 18'. 12 days at sea.

This is my first entry on the logbook. I did a nice start, crossing Gibraltar Strait in a good position in the fleet. But days later the Canary Islands has been a real pain for me. Very very little breeze, crawling the saharian coast, while some others enjoyed fresh winds far from me.

I went down the classification, but now I'm doing some nice 20 kts, and a great 471 miles 24h run recorded at 20:00Z. Doldrums ahead, but I'm confident, I think it will be a quick jump to the southern hemisphere.

1012 mb steady, temp is 26.8 ºC, 2.5 m waves, sounding gives an impressive 4600 m depth. "Breitling" is now trimmed to spend the night.

Good winds to all the fleet !!

Hi Breitling lol! Nice loogbook !
I apologize for my English Embarassed
I'm coming soon in Doldrums.
In French, we said "pot au noir".
You can translate by "dead calm zone" or "deathtrap".
My boat name Fomalhaut, because my zodiac sign is "Fish" and Fomalhaut is the alpha star of the "Austral Fish" constellation.
You can see it in South of Capricorn.
Is name comes from arabic language "fom al-hut", who means "fish mouth". This star is called too as "the solitary...the lonely"
My position : 6°9'N, 24°59' W and I'm surrounded by fying fishes Laughing
Sunrise sunny was at 7:32 GMT and sunset will be at 19:21 GMT
Good winds !

Nice not to be alone Smile

We are near to meet your star on the southern skies.

Data provided are real, extracted from GRIB files at my present position, so I can dream on the real thing Smile

This morning the wind has slowed down, this is doldrums. But I keep a nice speed trhough the waves. I can hardly see a sail to the east. She must be Iannick chasing me. Today is going to be a fair light wind day, so time to get some suntan on deck.

Cheers from "Breitling"

You are almost crossing the doldrums, that do not seem to be very active until now Very Happy Very Happy

I believe that we will have more problems in the South Atlantic because the Saint Helena HP is weak until now Neutral Neutral

Good luck and good winds

Bravo Breitling:

A very good approach to Tasman Sea. It gives you enough distance to cross Cook Strait in the first position cheers cheers

Don't say it too loud Smile

I planned my silent attack at night to climb some positions in the ladder, but never thought I was going to be the leader next morning !! This is not an easy nor comfortable position, anyway I'll try to keep it as much as I could. Smile

Data at my present location: weather is warming up slowly. Some nice 25 kts from the west, 8.7 ºC, 5 meter seas. And now looking at backwards more time than forward Laughing

Good wind to you all !!

Now I can say it very loudly. You have emerged from NZ heading the fleet and now we have paella in the menu. I will do my best to increase the amount of meat. One paella with two rabbits will satisfy 50 hungry sailors

Thanks Smile

It was hard. Three days almost trimming the boat each hour, but finally it paid off. I have to admit I thought about leaving NZ on port to reach WP6, but being not sure about the rules I decided to go ahead with something always in mind: to be the first at the gate Smile Finally the first was Celu, but I did it fine.

I don't know what exactly means the paella stuff Smile Tell me about that jargon please Smile

And now time for a little rest, but with my 3 day GRIB forecasts on the table Wink Don't lose sight of my sail !!!

About the paella stuff, it is simple. If the rabbit is Spanish (you in this case), the loups (all your followers, incuding me) prefer the rabbit prepared into a paella. This is not a bad idea albino

So, my purpose is to join to you as a second rabbit for the paella as soon as I can albino albino

The taste of the paella will be better and we may add more proteins

And, anyway and of course, I will keep an eye on your boat all the time in the desolated (and boring) South Pacific

We will see in Horn lol! lol!

There is water at the other side, come on !! Smile

But something strange happened: my next waypoint is WP10 !!! I realized because Rybak was always behind me, and suddenly he is 24 miles ahead !! HEading to WP10 he is closer than me, but we have to cross WP8 and WP9 before...

This stargate really has made some time and space compressions Smile

Year, same for me, at the beginning, i thought the stargate has droped me in the bermuda triangle .... but after checking my position with my sextant i can say that this is not !

The best way to understand is probably going back through the red line but unfortunately my rudder is locked ... don't know what happens ....

If someone want to try for me ??? rendeer rendeer

Cool
